Hi, I am Gayla the Captain of this blog. I will be writing this daily or weekly blog and taking most of the photos. I am also a bicyclist having cycled over 50,000km through 30 countries. The purpose of this adventure is to bicycle the ancient canals and waterways of Europe in search of a canal barge.
My navigator is Steve, a pilot and a captain. He will be plotting our course with his new GPS, a Garmin Legend HCX. He has downloaded Garmin City Navigator Europe as our main set of charts, the ‘Green Ways’ bicycle paths for France and Belgium and Fietsroute Planner for the Netherlands.
After sailing around the world for 15 years I became the sailor and Steve has now become a cyclist. Our bicycles are called Bike Friday’s and are made in the Eugene Oregon. The Samsonite suitcase carries the folded bikes that becomes the trailer.
We will now combine both our loves of being on water and cycling as we set off on a new venture in search for that barge boat and begin sailing on still waters..

Oh, and for some of our English friends who think we are a bit daft, just remember:
NO MATTER HOW DIFFICULT IT SEEMS…… OR HOW UGLY IT GETS…….
DO NOT PITY ME……………….I WILL NEVER GIVE UP OR SURRENDER
FOR I HOLD THE BICYCLE IN THE HIGHEST ESTEEM
